About PEEP!

The mission of our Poultry Egg Production Project is to increase local egg production, boost our local economy, and support our participants in their business goals. Now in its third year, this program which Sust’āinable Molokai piloted with our community, has received statewide funding and is being rolled out on neighboring islands.

Molokai PEEP provides selected participant with:

  • Over $2,500 in start-up equipment and supplies including 24 chicks, chick & pullet care starter packages (brooder box, feeding/watering supplies, feed), building materials for a stationary OR Mobile chicken coop (both inclusive of chicken runs)

  • A 8-month educational program on commercial chicken egg production including: 

    • 6 Zoom Workshops with Maxie Asagi of Asagi Hatchery

    • 6 Follow up Check-in Zoom sessions w/PEEP support team

    • 2 Zoom workshops on Chicken Foraging & Feed with Jennifer Hawkins of CTAHR

    • 4 Field Trips to past cohorts chicken farms

  • Farm Business Support

    • 1 – 1 Business Consultations with a Farm Business Specialist

    • G.E. License set-up

    • Assistance with a business plan & USDA registration

  • A built-in market that supports business growth

  • A cohort-style model that encourages farmer-to-farmer support & collaborative sales method

Program Applications Open: January 3-17, 2022

Program Interviews: January 20th & 21st

Program Begins: January 29, 2022

PEEP Workshop dates: 1/29, 2/5, 2/19, 3/5, 3/19, 4/2, 4/16

Foraging/Feed Workshop dates: 3/10, 3/24

Additional Cohort Meetings: 5/14, 6/25, 7/23, 8/20 & 9/17

Field Trip dates: 2/12, 3/12, 4/23, 5/7

Program Graduation: September 2022
